Leather Town Spin

Daytrip

Total Distance: 37km

The Ride: This 37 km Greenbelt ride is on quiet and well paved rural roads, passing bountiful farm fields, lush forests, and a variety of wetlands. Pop out into the town of Acton, skirting Fairy Lake, well known for fishing and accessible by canoe or kayak rentals from Prospect Park. Learn about Acton’s leather industry heritage that dates back to the early 1800s, with a stop at the Olde Hide House and Leathertown shop. Enjoy the countryside cruise back towards Georgetown, via Limehouse, where the nearby conservation area and walking trails take visitors through unique geological features and past the remains of kilns from the once thriving local lime industry. Return to Glen Williams where the bakery, pub, antique bookseller, riverside picnic area, arts centre, and studios all make for a welcome postride reception.

Experience Level: Easy to moderate, road ride. All roads are paved. Use caution on the shared road between Beamsville and Grimsby. Use a mix of paved shoulders and bike lanes coming into Grimsby along the Waterfront Trail. Take care along Main Street West towards Grimsby and watch for gravel debris along the road shoulders.

This initiative was a collaborative partnership between the Waterfront Regeneration Trust, the Friends of the Greenbelt FoundationOntario By Bike, and Share the Road Cycilng Coalition, building on two decades of investment in cycling infrastructure in Ontario.
