The Art Gallery of Algoma (AGA) is a public gallery dedicated to cultivating and advancing the awareness of visual arts in Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma district. The AGA’s commitment to excellence is reflected in all aspects of its programming. Approximately 20 exhibtions are mounted each year featuring local, national and international artists. The AGA also boasts an ever-growing permanent collection of 5000 works of art, including original paintings of the Group of Seven. The AGA offers art classes, workshops, films, exhibition tours, school visits and other programming for all age groups. For truly inspired gift ideas, the Gallery Shop is the best place to find a good selection of the Group of Seven items, and unique gifts made mostly by local artists and crafts people. Gallery Cafe offers visitors coffee, tea, soft drinks, ice cream and light snacks. It features a beautiful view of the St. Mary’s river, Sault Michigan and the International Bridge.

Tom Thomson painted the harbour of Bruce Mines in 1912. Bruce Mines is located 72.98 km or 65.89 miles from Blind River and 70km or 43 miles from Sault Ste Marie. Sault Ste Marie offers the Kinsmen Trails at Hiawatha Park or Sault Ste Marie Canal Historic Site. Blind River offers the Boom Camp Trails. Bike our local country dirt roads that lead to the Voyageur Trail or just observe nature and the farmlands. St Joseph Island also has cycling trails. Norm’s Cabin is a remote cabin that can only be accessed by biking or hiking the 8km trail. It is situated on Bone Lake with access to over 100km of trails. Gear, supplies and water will be transported in for guests. At the cabin there is a propane stove, fridge and lights as well as dishes, cutlery, pots and pans. Linens, and basic supplies such as dish soap and garbage bags are also supplied. Although there is no running water nor access to the internet, the lake has only one other cabin on it and it is rare to encounter anyone else in the area. The cabin is on the Stokely Creek Lodge cross country ski network and as such offers over 100kms of double track riding. There is also a single track trail maintained by the local cycling club. It is the perfect getaway to reconnect with nature.

Recreational cycling: The Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site invites cyclists to experience our newly paved road and pathways. In addition, the Attikamek trail system features 2.2 km of trails on South Ste. Marys Island passing through forest, wetlands and right under the International Bridge! Our packed gravel surface makes the trails ideal for all types of bikes. Primarily flat with minimal grade, our trails are great for all ages and levels of experience. Fat bikes: Fat bikes are also available for rent at the Sault Canal. Explore the trails with these fun, off-road- ready bikes. Want to try one out? Rentals start at $10/ hour per bike. Adult and youth sizes available. Rental includes a helmet and bike lock. Come to the Visitor Centre and try one today! Availability is on a first come, first served basis. Reservations are not available. Free admission to the Sault Canal site means you can come explore the trails and enjoy the beautiful views at your leisure.
