The Carambeck Community Centre is open Monday- Friday from 9:00am – 5:00pm, Sat and Sun 11am-4pm. This is one of the Town’s Municipal Buildings and has information on all upcoming programs and activities, as well as maps and information guides for the Town of Carleton Place. This location has bicycle racks located to the side, as well as areas along the fence line that cyclists can lock up their bikes if they prefer their bicycle to be at a closer proximity to the front door. This location has washroom facilities as well as a water fountain and drink machine and has benches for those who might need to take a rest.
Erected in 1872, this heritage designated building served the community of Carleton Place as the Town Hall and lock-up until 1879, and as Victoria School for 90 years until 1969. The museum is run by the Carleton Place and Beckwith Historical Society with assistance from hte Town of Carleton pLace and the Township of Beckwith.
Opening as the Victoria School Museum in 1985, the name was changed in 2011 to relfect the scope of its collection and its audience.
The Carleton Place Arena is open seven days a week from 7:00am – 9:00pm (most days it is open later) The Arena is equipped with bicycle racks, washroom facilities, and drink machines. During the evening and weekend hours- the Arena also has a canteen which sells warm drinks, chocolate bars and chips, as well as hot dogs and French fries. The Arena also has ample seating areas for those looking for a resting spot, and has various informative maps, brochures and guides on Carleton Place. This building also has free WIFI.

The Carleton Place Welcome Centre & The Roy Brown Museum is our official Bike Welcome Centre. Located at the historic Moore House at 170 Bridge Street. Here you will find public washrooms, tourism information, emergency bike kit, first aid kit, and access to our municipal docks, perfect for a mid bike swim or just to put your feet in the water. Our Town Hall Square has spots for picnics, Market Square, especially on Farmer’s Market Saturdays: May to October, 7:00 am -1:00 pm, and Carleton Junction where you will find the community’s cherished pump track, an additional bike repair kit, and more public washrooms.
Carleton Junction was home to the Carleton Place train yard, in fact, if you look to the left of the pump track you will see the historic roundhouse.

The Mississippi Mills Public Library has two branches (in Almonte & Pakenham, just outside of Ottawa). The library is situated right on the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (OVR) – a heavily biked trail, roughly 300kms in length, running from near Smiths Falls to Mattawa. The library is perfectly suited to support bicycle friendly businesses & tourism in our municipality. The library is already a hub for community information and information about events in the area. Both branches offer nearby, secure bike lock-up areas, local cycling info, a basic bicycle repair tool kit, rest areas & picnic sites alongside the trail and on library grounds/gardens, free WIFI, and washrooms. The Mississippi Valley Textile Museum is a National Trust Resilient Historic Places Winner, and Canada’s industrial textile history museum. We interpret the history of the woollen textile industry in the Mississippi River Valley, and the effects it had on the social, cultural and industrial development of the region. We also provide exhibits and education on fibre arts and a centre for the study of industrial textiles, while preserving our historic building and artifacts. We acknowledge that this sacred land on which Mississippi Mills is now located has been a site of human activity for over 10,000 years and is rich in Indigenous history. This land is the ancestral and unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation. We are grateful to the Algonquin ancestors who cared for the land and water in order that we might meet here today.

The four period rooms – parlour, dining room, drawing room and a warm and welcoming kitchen – have been carefully restored and furnished to reflect the lifestyle of the Matheson family who owned the house for 90 years.

Heritage House Museum is the municipal museum for the Town of Smiths Falls, with Victorian period rooms, changing exhibitions, gift store and grounds. In the early 1850’s the lure of plenty of water power and the promise of railway development attracted Joshua Bates, founder of nearby Farmersville (now Athens), to a site beside the roaring waters of Old Sly’s Rapids on the Rideau Canal. Bates built two mills on property leased from the Crown and promoted the development of the Brockville and Ottawa Railway Company. After suffering considerable losses in his milling operations and investing heavily in the now bankrupt railway company, he began construction of his large frame house in 1861. Despite his optimism for the future, fate did not allow Joshua Bates to recoup his fortune or to enjoy his new home. He died in debt on January 1st, 1864. Ironically, his home and mills were acquired by his competitor Truman R. Ward, eldest son of Abel Russell Ward, a founding father of Smiths Falls. After many years of neglect, the Corporation of the Town of Smiths Falls purchased the once dignified country estate from the Gleeson family in 1977 for use as a museum. Today the lifestyles of Joshua and Tamson Bates and Truman and Anabella Ward are depicted in the classically styled home where both families once lived. Heritage House Museum functions as a historic house depicting upper middle class life circa 1865-1875 and as a local museum featuring a permanent collection of Smiths Falls artifacts, traveling exhibits and art shows.
