Burning Kiln Winery is located at the edge of the Long Point escarpment overlooking Long Point Bay on what is a very popular route for cyclists because of its naturally spectacular setting. Our showpiece winery opened in 2010 and has been winning awards since for our agri-innovation and exceptionally high quality wines made by Lydia Tomek. The winery is on the site of former tobacco lands on the Southern Norfolk Sand Plains and is itself an architecturally repurposed tobacco pack barn. We have 28 acres planted to vinifera varietals such as Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in red grapes and Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Savagnin for the whites. We have transformed tobacco kilns for use in our kiln-drying grape process in the “appassimento” style which makes our wines some of the most unique tasting experiences anywhere.
Cyclists will be treated to a secure locking area, water, restrooms and all the amenities that the winery has to offer including educational tours, tastings of its award-winning kiln-dried VQA wines, local food fare during the summer months and a relaxing, natural pond-side picnic and rest area. Right across the road is our sister-company, Long Point Eco Adventures which offers Ziplining, star gazing in the fabulous Observatory, Glamping (executive tents), kayaking, over 50kms of biking and hiking trails and have recently added “Trip to the Tip” of Long Point Zodiac boat tour. Well within comfortable biking distances are the spectacular Long Point beach (the longest fresh-water beach in the world), Turkey Point, beautiful lakeside villages and towns such as Port Dover and Port Rowan, a burgeoning culinary scene with wonderful restaurants, inns and B&B’s, roadside produce stands, museums and other tourist attractions. All of these are value-added to our winery experience and coupled with the unbelievable, natural scenery, this is truly a unique and hidden gem of a region for cyclists.
