It was December 2015, on a cold brisk morning, when a few cyclists gathered at a local cafe that the Bluewater International Granfondo (BIG) was born. The goals were simple. Within four years, BIG has had an impact far greater than anyone could have imagined.
Rail Trails In Kawartha Lakes
The City of Kawartha Lakes, which incorporates Lindsay and the surrounding area, sits at the cross-roads of two major rail trails in Ontario. Situated just outside the picturesque village of Bobcageon, the LAB is a live theatre venue comprising of an extremely comfortable 150 seat black-box theatre and a bar and dining area. The LAB boasts a contemporary Arts space in a rustic building steeped in local history. Originally a working cattle barn the building was transformed into a dance hall in 1967. Since then it has always been an important focal point of the local social scene hosting generations of weddings, dances and family gatherings and once boasting the largest hardwood dance floor in all of Ontario!
In 2006 the building underwent extensive renovations to transform it into a venue for the Arts and welcomed Globus Theatre as the company-in-residence. Globus offers a diverse and thoroughly entertaining professional summer season and an eclectic mix of dramas, murder mysteries and comedy nights at other times throughout the year. Globus’ annual Christmas pantomime is a highlight of the holiday season - a collaboration with the local community it offers an opportunity for local talent (young and old!) to perform in a professional theatre setting. Theatre patrons can choose to dine prior to any of the evening performances in the dining room adjacent to the theatre. No need to worry about rushing from dinner to the show - you're so close we're guaranteed not to start without you! The LAB is also proud to maintain an extensive performing arts library.
With over 1,000 play titles to choose from you are welcome to peruse the plays on offer over a cocktail or glass of wine from our fully stocked bar. Although the emphasis nowadays is on theatre, the parties and celebrations continue @ the LAB! The theatre itself is completely removable to reveal that the original, stunning, hardwood dance floor is still there and to offer up over 7,000 sq ft of banquet facility. It is the perfect venue for a wedding, corporate event, fundraiser or pretty much any type of event you care to mention! Our culinary team can cater events from 40 – 400 people and offer a range of dining options from the basic to the gourmet! Whatever the reason for your visit we look forward to welcoming you and making your experience @ the LAB a great one.
