Cataraqui Kingston Wolfe Cruiser

Date: Anytime. It’s a self-guided itinerary
Duration: 3 days, 2 nights
Ontario By Bike Ride Hosted: June 13 to 15, 2026

Total Distance: 160km

The Ride: Enjoy this tour in Southeastern Ontario, riding some of the top rail trails in the region, taking in waterfront vistas, quiet island road riding and stops in pretty small and large communities along the way. Ride the well-groomed Cataraqui and K&P rail trails following creeks, past marshes and lush agricultural lands into Kingston. Enjoy two nights staying in downtown Kingston, close to all the action, cafes, shops and the city’s scenic lakeside trail. On day two, take the ferry and explore the beautiful, quiet paved and gravel road cycling on Wolfe Island, with expansive Lake Ontario views, wind mills, and a beach stop. On the last day, ride west from Kingston stopping at historic sights along the Loyalist Parkway and Waterfront Trail. From the village of Bath, pedal inland through flat and picturesque farmlands on quiet country roads, returning to Napanee.

Experience Level and Ride Guide: Moderate. The route incorporates parts of the Cataraqui and K&P Trail systems with mixed, unpaved surfaces of gravel and stone dust as well as segments on the paved on-road Great Lakes Waterfront Trail. Other stretches include quiet country roads with and without paved shoulders and some busier connectors and crossroads with more traffic, cycling into Kingston. Riders should be comfortable cycling on roads with shared vehicle traffic. Cycling on Wolfe Island involves riding a mix of paved and well-groomed gravel roads with little traffic. With mixed surfaces, this ride is suitable for gravel, hybrid and mountain bikes and road bikes with wider tires.

Day 1: Napanee to Kingston – 65km

Your ride adventure will start in downtown Napanee, with just a quick 8km ride before turning onto the Cataraqui Trail. What follows is a fantastic 47km trail ride on converted and well maintained old railroad beds through largely flat agricultural lands known as the Napanee Plains. Pedal at your own pace and enjoy the car-free scenery as you experience the natural beauty along the route. After a lunch stop in Harrowsmith, the trail intersects the K&P trail and the ride route turns south through the Frontenac Arch Biosphere into the city of Kingston. An easy cruise following a 7km stretch of pathway, both on and off-road, along the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail will lead you into the vibrant downtown area and overnight accommodations of your choice.

Day 2: Wolfe Island – 45km

From the downtown Kingston waterfront, take the 20 minute ferry to Wolfe Island, landing at the village of Marysville. Make your way west from town on a mix of paved and well-groomed gravel roads, with beautiful Lake Ontario shoreline riding and through a mix of fields and forests, then heading south to the popular destination Big Sandy Bay, a provincially significant conservation area which offers a picnic area and stunning sandy beach. Continue on a cycling loop around the island, enjoying quiet rural lanes passing open farmland, wind farms and scenic waterfront stretches. Visit the southeastern tip of island, Point Alexandria, and the view across to Cape Vincent, New York. Loop back, take in the atmosphere and visit quaint shops in Marysville, enjoying a waterfront patio, cafe or bakery, local art galleries and gift shops before taking the ferry back to Kingston for another wonderful night at the downtown Kingston accommodations.

Day 3: Kingston to Napanee – 50km

From Kingston, we ride west, following the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, for an easy morning 30km ride following the scenic shores of Lake Ontario. As the shared on-road route with generous paved shoulders continues along the Loyalist Parkway, learn more about the early settlers stopping at the numerous heritage landmarks and heritage buildings. With countless waterfront parks enroute to admire the views, set a slow pace before a stop for lunch. Approaching the small village of Bath, make sure to load up on some local goodies at Schell’s market, Welborne Commons or visit the local museum before a turn northwards. Enjoy the last 20km of the route on quiet country roads, past pretty farms and old barns, with options to visit the rurally set local brewery (MacKinnon Brothers Brewing Company) before the ride ends back in Napanee.
