Hamilton Brantford Port Dover Rail Trail Weekend

When: Saturday, May 30 to Sunday, May 31, 2020


Total Distance: 108km to 135km

The Ride: Experience the spectacular off-road rail trail ride from Hamilton to Brantford, Paris to Port Dover, with ride ending on the shores of Lake Erie. Shorter or longer route options are available so you can make the most of the ride and time out on this interconnected well maintained trail system. Passing through many communities along the way, take time out to enjoy the sights, whether choosing to ride with friends, the group or independently.   

Experience Level and Ride Guide: Easy to moderate. Off-road rail trail, hard packed limestone screening, small paved sections, level road crossings, with minimal on-road connections and some quieter urban roads. Suitable for hybrid bikes, mountain bikes, and older road bikes. Enjoy a group ride option or ride at your own pace using detailed maps and information provided.

Day 1: Saturday, May 30, Dundas to Brantford or Paris - 47km (or 74km)

Starting in Hamilton - Dundas, just one hour from downtown Toronto, meet up with the group at parking lot conveniently located near the trail head. Ride out on the Hamilton Brantford Rail Trail through the incredibly scenic Dundas valley, Escarpment country and dense forests, to flat farmlands that abut the trail. Enjoy a lunch time picnic at local farm and an easy ride into Brantford following parkland alongside the Grand River. Explore city trails and visit local attractions closer to hotel and overnight accommodations at the Comfort Inn. Or add some extra kilometers to the day and pedal north as far as Paris, a pretty river side town for waterfront patio refreshments, and back by trail.

Day 2: Sunday, May 31, Brantford to Port Dover - 61km

Hit the trail and head south following the green parkland that snakes along the shores of the Grand River and through Brantford, a part of the Trans Canada Trail system. Take a break in Waterford, for panoramic views riding atop of the Black Bridge, and learn more about the rich agricultural heritage with a stop at local museum. Continue along on flat easy tree and farm lined trail to town of Simcoe, and further south towards Lake Erie, and the beach side town of Port Dover. Celebrate the end of a great weekend with a dip in the Lake, cold beverage or shopping in this town that welcomes riders on two wheels.  

Schedule: Ride start time 9:30am from Dundas, Hamilton. Pick-up in Port Dover, returning to Dundas. Exact locations to be announced.

Getting To/From Start:
Dundas is conveniently located in close proximity to the GTA approximately 1 hour west of Toronto and Niagara Falls, 1 1/2 hours south of Barrie, and 1 1/2 hours east of London.  
Transportation Options also include GO Transit with trains that run to Aldershot Station (Hamilton). Use Hamilton Cycling Map to plan your route to start location in Dundas. All Hamilton city buses have racks on front for 2 bikes. 

Arriving Early / Staying Late:
